Providence Sailing

Providence V is a family-owned topsail schooner on Magnetic Island owned by Grant Lewis and Lindsay Simpson. They have five children: Elliot, James, Phoebi, Oscar and Jess. You may even meet some of them when you are out sailing. Providence V was built in North Queensland out of some of the last of the Tully rainforest timber by a wooden boat builder who still lives in North Queensland. He went all the way to America to get the plans and after several months of driving from Florida up to Maine, found the Gloucester schooner in the Mystic River. He was given permission by the museum to build one such schooner. So she is entirely unique. Providence was built in Mourilyn in the builder’s boatbuilding yard with his two sons. She was named Providence V as that was the fifth boat the boatbuilder saw on that trip named Providence.
